Regional guide Shannon river and lakes

The river Shannon flows through many counties each with its own character. Limerick, Tipperary, Galway, Westmeath and Leitrim are dotted with wonderful little towns where cruisers and fishermen come in to partake of good food and drink in the charming pubs dotting the shores. Lough Derg, the largest lake on the river is known as Ireland's Pleasure Lake because of the many watersports on offer. Killaloe with its wonderful 14th century Cathedral is right on its shores. Further north is Lough Ree offering more pleasure and both are just part of the most varied inland waterways and cruising waters in Europe.
