Regional guide South West of Ireland

This region is known primarily for the spectacular, breathtaking scenery of Kerry's dramatic coastline, the Conor Pass, the Ring of Kerry on the Iveragh Peninsula and the Lakes of Killarney. But there is much more besides! Neighbouring Cork ranks just as highly for scenery with its indented coastline of hidden coves and beaches and softer contours around Bantry and Glengarriff. It has an international reputation for good food. Kinsale is host to gastronomic festivals and gateway to West Cork where the little villages such as Skibbereen, Schull and Goleen have wonderful village shops piled high with locally grown organic produce and cheeses. One of life's pleasures must be meandering through miles of country lanes in the rural countryside of county Limerick. Walking through the hills and mountains or biking on the Ballyhoura Bike Trail you will meet nature at its unspoilt best. Limerick is an historic city and its airport at Shannon is gateway to both the south and west of the country.
